AGM Report

Here is a quick update for anyone who was not able to attend the Annual General Meeting last week.

The regular business of the Harewood Community Centre Cooperative was conducted smoothly. The President’s and Treasurer’s reports were straightforward and accepted without significant discussion.

Four board members stepped down, four current board members are staying on to serve another year, one former board member returned to the board, and one brand new board member joined bringing the HC3 2010 Board to six members:

  • Evelyn Corfield
  • James Slater
  • Rosalyn Rosher
  • Cherelynn Minshall
  • Peggy Lake
  • Doris Edwards

John Horn gave an engaging and informative talk with plenty of visual aids including a large photo of a good portion of Harewood from the early 1950s.  Mr. Horn painted a picture of Harewood as a stable community with numerous assets (recreation facilities, private development, the university), still room to develop, and many opportunities.  He encourage community members to work together to determine community values and priorities and to work together to communicate our needs and wants to the city and developers.

Mr. Horn’s talk was timely indeed.  Harewood Community Centre Cooperative is well poised to move forward and facilitate the arrival of more services into our community however these initiatives will fail without widespread support of community members, a broadened membership base and increased engagement of the members in the activities of the Co-op.

This coming year, in addition to the frequently behind the scenes work of coalition building, networking, researching, connecting and developing capacity to attract and provide services, the Board must manage effective membership building and communication efforts.

The first meeting of the new board is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 8.  Time/location will be posted shortly As always, HC3 members and community members are welcome to attend board meetings.

We are looking forward to another year of building community together!
